Add Watermark to Image

A corner mark brands an image; only a tiled one is hard to crop out, so the right watermark depends on whether you are signing your work or protecting it.

100% free · runs in your browser · nothing is uploaded

Add your channel name, your logo or both. The image is watermarked in your browser and never uploaded.

What this tool does

Add watermark to image files, thumbnails and previews here without installing anything or creating an account. Type your channel name or handle, add your logo if you have one, and choose a corner, the centre, or a tiled pattern across the whole picture. Size, opacity, margin and colour all update the preview as you change them, and the download keeps your image at its original dimensions unless you ask for a 1280×720 YouTube thumbnail instead.

How to add a watermark to an image

  1. Add the image. Drop it onto the page, paste it, or choose it from your disk. A text watermark reading @yourchannel appears straight away so you can see where it sits.
  2. Write the mark. Replace the text with your own, or clear it and add a logo for an image-only mark. With both, the logo sits to the left of the text at the same height. A transparent PNG logo looks cleanest, because a JPG logo brings its background box with it.
  3. Place it. Pick a corner for a quiet signature, or Tiled to repeat it across the image at an angle you choose.
  4. Tune and download. Lower the opacity until the mark is visible without fighting the picture, then download as JPG, PNG or WebP.

Corner or tiled: pick by what you need

A small corner mark is branding. It tells anyone who sees a reposted image where it came from, and it costs the picture almost nothing, but a single crop removes it. A tiled mark is protection. It is much harder to remove, and it also covers the image, so it suits previews and work you are sharing before release rather than a finished thumbnail. On a YouTube thumbnail, keep corner marks out of the bottom right: that is where YouTube shows the video length, so anything there is covered in most feeds.

Why it works without uploading

Many of the free watermark tools that rank for this job send your image to a server to process it, ask you to sign up before you can download, or add their own branding to the export. Here the image and the logo are read by your browser and drawn on a canvas on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere, and there is no limit and no watermark of ours on the result.

To put a headline on the image as well, use add text to thumbnail, and check how small the mark reads in a feed with the thumbnail preview. If you are deciding how much branding your thumbnails need, read the thumbnail consistency guide, and for what you may legally put in a thumbnail, see YouTube thumbnail copyright. Or generate a thumbnail and add your mark to it here.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a watermark to an image for free?

Drop the image onto this page, type your name or add your logo, and press Download. There is no account, no limit and no watermark of ours on the result, and the image is processed entirely in your browser.

How do I add my logo to a YouTube thumbnail?

Add the thumbnail, choose your logo file, and pick a corner other than the bottom right, where YouTube shows the video length. Set the output to 1280×720 if the image is not already thumbnail size, then download it as a JPG.

How do I make a watermark transparent?

Lower the opacity slider until the mark is visible without hiding the picture. Judge it on your own image: a light mark on a bright photo needs more opacity than the same mark on a dark one.

Can a watermark be removed?

A small corner watermark can, by cropping or retouching, which is why it works as a signature rather than a lock. A tiled watermark across the whole image is far harder to remove, though nothing visible is impossible to edit out.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The image and your logo are read by your own browser and the watermark is drawn on a canvas on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so unreleased work stays private.
